What else am I doing?

Children’s Rights Index: With funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation, we are developing the Children’s Rights Index, a measure of young people’s formal rights. Our goal is to measure children’ s rights for nearly every country over five-increments from 1984 to 2009. http://www.case.edu/artsci/soci/Gran/documents/ComparingChildrensRightsIntroducingtheChildrensRightsIndex.pdf

Handbook of Sociology and Human Rights: With David Brunsma and Keri Iyall Smith, I am co-editing The Handbook of Sociology and Human Rights. http://www.paradigmpublishers.com/Books/BookDetail.aspx?productID=298828 and http://www.case.edu/artsci/soci/Gran/documents/TheHandbookofSociologyandHumanRightsToC.pdf

AAAS-SHRP: I serve on the Coalition and Council of the American Association for the Advancement of Science-Science and Human Rights Program. Among other responsibilities, I co-chair the Working Group on Service to the Human Rights Community. One of the primary goals of this working group is to develop indicators of the right to benefit from scientific progress.

ISA TG03: I am President of the International Sociological Association’s Thematic Group 03 on Global Justice and Human Rights. ISA TG03 is hard at work in preparing for the 2014 ISA Congress to be held in Yokohama.

CRN 18: I chair the Collaborative Research Network 19, Law and the Public-Private Dichotomy, of the Law and Society Association. http://lawandsociety.org/crn.html#18.

Human Trafficking: With support of a Freedman Fellowship from Case Western Reserve University, I am working with a group of researchers to understand who is trafficked and why in northeast Ohio.

Research Group on Ombudspersons for Children (RGOC): With Professors Karl Hanson and Nigel Patrick Thomas, I co-direct the Research Group on Ombudspersons for Children. Focusing on the European context for now, the RGOC seeks to understand how organizational structures of ICRIs shape their efforts to advance children’s rights.
